Evangelism
God calls each of us in a unique way to be evangelical and spread the good word about God’s grace and love for one another. At Emmanuel Lutheran, each of us has been called to reach out to the community and spread the good news about Christ and the salvation he offers to every one of us. The evangelism committee is doing several things to spread the word.
This year we created and displayed a banner inviting the community to join us for Advent and Easter services. Other initiatives included a new member dinner with the church council in the fall of 2007 and sending personal notes to everyone who visited us in the past year thanking them for the visit and asking them to worship with us again.
In 2009, we will begin sending personalized postcards designed specifically for Emmanuel. The postcards will be mailed on a monthly basis to all new families that have purchased homes and moved to the Bethesda/ Potomac area. We want to be the first to invite them to worship with us. We hope this invitation entices them to visit us and join Emmanuel on a permanent basis.
Just as important to the life of the congregation as bringing new members into the fold, we must continue reaching out to one another in the congregation. Through various fellowship events we have opportunities to share the good news of Christ’s teachings and nurture each other. We share with one another during coffee hour, retreats, Bible study, and various small groups who meet on a regular basis. The “Fun Group,” designed to bring our seniors together, is an off-shoot of the feedback received from a survey that the evangelism committee conducted in 2006.
The evangelism committee invites and encourages participation and idea sharing from any of our members. Please contact Deborah Kalas or Kurt Einwaechter. Our phone numbers are Deborah at 301-838-8566 and Kurt at 301-907-8690.
